Chapter 2 Application Test: Drafting
Name: ____________________________________________ Date: _________________
Read the introductory paragraphs below and determine which method of introduction was used for each.
1. When I was ten, my favorite pastime was bike riding with my friend Liz. We would see how far into our
housing development we could ride before we found a street that was “new” to us. Once we got lost, and it
took us almost three hours to find our way back to a street we recognized, but we eventually made it.
Nowadays, ten-year-old girls get dropped off at the strip mall and call their parents for a ride home from
their own personal cell phones. Young girls today need less technology and more physical exercise for three
main reasons.

3. When I wake up in the morning I let the shower run for about twenty minutes while I watch the news. Then
I drive my SUV to the office even though the bus offers door-to-door service. I always bring my lunch in a
plastic bag so I can throw it away when I’m done instead of lugging a lunch tote. When I come home, I
water my lawn every day because keeping it green is important and I don’t mind the water bill. Obviously,
my day as described is extremely wasteful, and I’m happy to say that isn’t how I really spend my days. In
fact, I believe living a green lifestyle is extremely important. Conserving resources can be a part of our daily
activities, and there are three easy ways to begin to “live green” that can be easily incorporated into one’s
daily routine.
